"No boundaries" for lighting designers with Galileo and Wireless DMX
Lights in Alingsås is Sweden’s largest light festival. In 2024 it celebrated its 25th anniversary with spectacular installations inspired by the magical world of mythology.
The event attracts some of the world’s foremost lighting designers who apply almost a year in advance to become a Workshop Head. About 6 or 7 designers are chosen who then lead of group of international students to create an outdoor installation which is on show for the whole of October.
Lights in Alingsås 2024 – Lighting Designers Talk About Creative Freedom with Wireless DMX
ContinueFor several of this year’s designers, wireless technology was essential to bringing their creative vision to life. Since they are working outside, they have to tackle challenges including the weather, water ingress into fittings and mounting positions so LumenRadio’s Galileo was the perfect fit.
Galileo is a family of Wireless DMX transmitters and receivers designed for outdoor use. Galileo streamlines architectural lighting projects delivering reliable, industry-leading CRMX compatibility across fixture manufacturers.
“Working with wireless means less borders,” says Dierk Hartmann who has been Equipment Manager at Lights in Alingsås for 12 years now. “Bringing the control light up to the tower of a church – it’s not a problem with wireless. If there’s a big street or a river on your side, it’s no problem. Wireless connection makes work easier.”
And for the Lighting Designers, wireless control means the freedom to create.
“Wireless technology is an absolute game-changer for lighting designers because it means there’s no need for cabling,” says Emma Cogswell, a Professional Lighting Designer from the UK and a regular at Lights. “Wireless lighting control gives me the creativity to come up with hugely imaginative schemes in a way which was never possible before – and I cannot wait to use it more!”
