Götaplatsen - enhancing the urban environment
ENHANCING THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT
LumenRadio’s CRMX wireless lighting controls played a key role in a new lighting system for Götaplatsen in central Gothenburg, Sweden. The project is part of the city’s effort to actively use lighting to enhance the urban environment and it was a featured project at the recent Annual General Meeting of the Lighting Urban Community International (LUCI).
The plaza, located at the end of the magnificent avenue Kungsportavenyn, is the center of Gothenburg’s cultural life and is lined by 3 major institutions; the Gothenburg City Theater, the Gothenburg Museum of Art, and the Gothenburg Concert Hall. The plaza features an impressive fountain with a gigantic statue of Poseidon signed Carl Milles, and attracts large crowds for such annual events as Chalmerscortégen, Christmas in Gothenburg, and Gothenburg City Marathon.
LumenRadio developed the permanent installation, designed with energy efficient and environmentally friendly LED fixtures, in cooperation with our Swedish distributor Hofmann Teknik AB and engineering firm Ramboll, with government support and ownership by the City of Gothenburg Traffic and Public Transport.
WHAT WE DID?
LumenRadio’s wireless units were deployed to extend the reach of DMX and RDM distribution to all parts of the comprehensive lighting system on and around the plaza without any disruptive or costly construction work. On the roof of the Museum of Art, two CRMX Nova FX RDM were installed, responsible for distribution of DMX and RDM. A number of IP65 rated CRMX Slim receivers were then strategically placed around the plaza to maintain an uncluttered appearance of the surrounding buildings and to keep the technical infrastructure invisible to the largest extent possible.
The extensive lighting system is monitored using LumenRadio’s SuperNova software, which allows continuous monitoring of all connected devices and fixtures and keeps the user informed about such vital information as signal strength, critical temperatures, possible errors, and other operational issues.
