Oslo's Historical Museum uses W-DALI for challenging installation
Museum lighting is often challenging, requiring specialized solutions. This project at the Historical Museum in Norway is a great example of how wireless control can solve issues in areas where it is difficult to install cables or where there are restrictions on how rooms, walls and building structures can be altered.
LumenRadio’s Norwegian distributor, Vanpee, has a long-standing relationship with the customer for this project, Installatøren Oslo AS, who regularly uses Vanpee’s services when lighting control is required. Vanpee has completed several high-profile projects, including the University of Oslo, with their customer Installatøren Oslo AS.
The Historical Museum in Oslo is one of the most important Art Nouveau buildings in Norway. Now a protected property, the building was completed in 1902 and architect Henrik Bull not only designed the exterior but also the interior and all its finer details.
The lighting project for the opening of the museum’s new permanent exhibition, “Heritage – Our Place in History”, involved many of the typical challenges associated with historic buildings, such as running cables and altering the building structure.
The project also involved many of the common requirements for museum lighting: quality illumination that protects light-sensitive objects, while enhancing the visitor experience and which is still flexible enough to be adjusted as needed.
For this project, the Helvar Digidim lighting system was used, with a switch for different scenes (Cleaning and Exhibition lighting), as well as the Digidim 492 relay for light showers and playback of sound sequences. These are products the customer was already familiar with, but they encountered a challenge when they couldn’t run a DALI bus to one of the display cases. A power connection was nearby, but to save time before the exhibition’s opening and to avoid the extra work and visible cables, they opted for LumenRadio’s W-DALI solution based on Vanpee’s recommendation.
This lighting project at the Historical Museum in Oslo became an introductory W-DALI project for Vanpee. Installatøren Oslo AS found W-DALI to be a simple yet effective solution for their project.
“We gained valuable experience and feedback about W-DALI from LumenRadio and it was a great solution to the problems we had in this project. We are confident this will be a go-to solution for retrofits and similar needs in the future.”
