Rooftop unit optimization made easy with wireless integration
When Parity, a HVAC system optimizer, set out to improve the HVAC performance of a luxury multifamily residential building in New Jersey, speed, reliability and minimal disruption were critical. By replacing a traditional wired approach with LumenRadio’s Wireless BACnet (W BACnet) technology, Parity dramatically simplified installation, reduced materials used and accelerated deployment.
The wireless solution shortened installation time by at least 30% and eliminated common wiring-related issues. W-BACnet also enabled a faster path to energy savings, lower CO₂ emissions and improved system performance – all without compromising reliability.
About Parity
Parity is a leading HVAC optimization-as-a-service provider focused on reducing energy waste in large multifamily residential buildings and hotels. Through real-time remote optimization of heating, cooling and ventilation systems, Parity helps building owners improve operational efficiency without replacing existing HVAC equipment.
The challenge: optimizing rooftop units without miles of conduit
The New Jersey property features four 80 ton rooftop units spread across the roof of a large luxury multifamily complex. To fully optimize system performance, these units needed to be integrated into the building management system (BMS).
A conventional wired installation would have required more than 500 feet of conduit, along with support blocks running across the roof and back to a central control panel. This approach would have increased project cost, consumed valuable rooftop space and extended installation timelines. Long wire runs also introduce common risks such as voltage drop, shorted wiring and hours of troubleshooting during commissioning.
Parity needed a faster, cleaner and more reliable way to connect the rooftop units.

The wireless advantage
To avoid the limitations of a wired installation, Parity selected LumenRadio’s W-BACnet wireless devices for BMS integration. The wireless solution eliminated the need for long conduit runs, significantly reducing material requirements and installation labor.
By using wireless, Parity expedited the installation process by at least one third and avoided the troubleshooting typically associated with long-distance wiring.
“Not only did our installation time decrease by 30%, we also didn’t need to do any troubleshooting, which is normal in traditional installations where wire is pulled a significant distance,” explains Kevin Lin, Director of Systems Integration at Parity Inc.
In addition to time savings, Parity found the W-BACnet solution easy to deploy and support in the field.
“Working with LumenRadio was great,” adds Kevin. “The W-BACnet products were easy to install, the app worked great and it provided accessible support.”
The wireless approach enabled a faster, more reliable retrofit while preserving rooftop space and reducing project risk. For Parity, LumenRadio’s W-BACnet technology proved to be a practical and scalable alternative to traditional wiring, supporting their mission to optimize HVAC performance while lowering energy use and emissions
