Occirep lights the way with AirGlow wireless street lighting control
To modernize lighting across the Hautes-Pyrénées, SDE65 partnered with Occirep to deploy LumenRadio’s AirGlow. The wireless, scalable solution enables efficient control, fast installation and long-term energy savings.
Occirep, a specialist in urban lighting solutions, has long worked with municipalities, architects, project managers and installers across the Occitanie region in south-west France. In close collaboration with local energy syndicates (SDEs) – regional bodies responsible for energy management – Occirep supports the deployment of modern, efficient public lighting infrastructure.

One of these syndicates, SDE65, which oversees energy for the Hautes-Pyrénées department, partnered with Occirep to undertake a large-scale modernization of the region’s public lighting network. With a coverage area of over 4,400 km², the project included residential areas, parks and public pathways.
The Challenge
SDE65 needed a system that would allow for precise scheduling adjustments without requiring on-site intervention at each luminaire.
It also had to be non-proprietary and accessible to any authorized technician – free from ongoing subscription fees and administrative limitations. In addition, the system needed to support group-based programming instead of requiring configuration at each individual lighting point.
Given the department’s plan to replace outdated HPS (high-pressure sodium) and MH (metal halide) luminaires with LEDs, compatibility with modern retrofitting was essential. Above all, the solution had to be cost-effective, easy to install, and environmentally responsible – capable of rapid deployment while remaining scalable for future needs.
The Solution
Drawing on decades of partnership with SDE65, Occirep proposed LumenRadio’s AirGlow – a wireless outdoor lighting controller featuring:
- A Zhaga Book 18 connector for simple, standards-based installation
- Bluetooth connectivity for on-site wireless configuration
- An integrated astronomical clock to automate time-based lighting control
- Non-proprietary, fee-free operation
- Scalable architecture, with optional gateway integration for centralized management
- The ability to program by group, dramatically reducing setup and adjustment time
SDE65 initiated a department-wide deployment plan, aiming to install hundreds of AirGlow units across its territory.
The Results
Though still in progress, the project is already yielding clear benefits.
The quick and easy installation process has minimized disruption and reduced labor costs, while faster programming and simplified technician training have streamlined operational handovers. SDE65 anticipates a significant reduction in energy consumption, with an ambitious goal of cutting usage by up to 50% in the long term.
In addition, the system’s open, scalable architecture ensures it is well-positioned for future upgrades and integrations. With its flexible design and strong environmental advantages, AirGlow is proving to be an ideal solution for the evolving demands of public lighting control in the Hautes-Pyrénées.
