LumenRadio’s wireless CRMX technology played a major part during the opening ceremony of the 26th biennial South East Asian Games (SEA Games) held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia. The games featured athletes from 11 nations competing in almost 600 hundred events in 44 disciplines ranging from well known international sports such as football, cycling, and tennis to regional favorites like Pencak Silat, Sepak Takraw, Vovinam, and Wushu.
The opening ceremony at the Gelora Sriwijaya stadium in Palembang on 11-11-11, the date chosen for its unique numerical sequence, was held in front of more than 40,000 spectators in addition to the hundreds of millions viewing the live broadcast. The official presentation of the athletes and speeches by government officials and other dignitaries were accompanied by extensive segments of lively entertainment designed to display the host nations pride in the games. Elaborate song and dance sequences, as well as a unique cauldron segment, were accompanied by a gigantic spectacular of stadium scale lighting and projections synchronized with massive amounts of colorful ground and aerial fireworks.
Bernard Chew, principal at Jakarta based BLD Lighting Design and owner of Mr:Hendar Lie of Mata Elang Productions, has been involved with lighting design all over South East Asia for almost 20 years and specializes in large scale and arena events. He was in charge of the challenging task of lighting the show in this vast space with plenty of logistical and coordination issues to worry about. Chew, with the support of LumenRadio distributor Total Solution, overcame daunting signal distribution challenges by employing an extensive CRMX wireless DMX/RDM system, with 12 single universe transmitters and over 12 single universe receivers.
“The organizers of SEA Games did certainly not spare any effort to find the best technologies and equipment available. We are therefore particularly proud that CRMX, after extensive considerations and testing, was selected by Chew and his crew for this monumental task,” says Hans Lau, Director of OEM and the Americas, and continues “Reliable and efficient DMX distribution is a an absolute requirement for projects of this character and magnitude. CRMX Automated Cognitive Coexistence with Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFHSS) is key to success in such a challenging environment”.
