LumenRadio is used at a high-profile launch event for new car

At a recent unveiling of a new car from a high-profile car manufacturer, Mattias Oslak, Light designer from Mediatec Solutions, used a total 180 fixtures, alongside a number of LumenRadio transmitters, to illuminate and control both the indoor and outdoor environment.

At the launch event, which was held at the Volvo Studios in Milano, a large number of SGM R2’s were used to illuminate the Volvo XC40 and to light up the front part of the stage. In an area of over 200 square meters, where no cabled fixtures were allowed, Mattias opted to go with LumenRadio as his choice for reliable wireless DMX connectivity.

“I have worked with LumenRadio products for several years and choose it because of the great reliability and flexibility. When using LumenRadio’s wireless technology  together with battery-powered fixtures, a world of creative, but yet reliable, options presents themselves.” says, Mattias Oslak  Light designer at Mediatec Solutions Sweden AB.

At the same event, Mattias mounted a number of Astera fixtures, such as the AX10, AX5 and AX3, onto rails and custom-made brackets in order to light up the decor. In the event hall, where cabled solutions were not permitted, Mattias used the battery-powered fixtures to allow for the decor to be moved around, all while still using LumenRadio transmitters to control the fixtures.

“At high-profile events such as this, where the demands for reliability and flexibility are extremely high, there’s no better option than LumenRadio” says Robert Larsson, International Sales Manager at LumenRadio. He continues: “I think that Mattias trusting LumenRadio to do the job at an event like this is a testament to the value we offer our customers. With the flexibility wireless connectivity offers, all while still being extremely reliable, I believe lighting designers should start to think about wireless connectivity not only as an option, but rather as a standard in their future work.”

Trend report from IoT Solution World Congress Barcelona

Barcelona is probably the perfect mix of wonderful food, marvelous drinks and a strong nest for IoT-technology trends. LumenRadio was of course present at the IoT Solution World Congress, participating in the discussion and contributing by sharing our experiences.

This year the exhibition IoT Solution World Congress 2017 (IOTSWC 17) exceeded expectations and delivered a sparkling mix of really interesting trends.

Compared to IOTSWC 16 we see more focus on concrete applications and many of the exhibiting companies are showcasing real use cases that have been deployed. Quite the opposite of last year’s IOTSWC, when we talked about visions and what value IoT could bring to the table in the future.

Focus on the Edge

At IOTSWC 17 the focus was on the Edge and how devices connect within it. We can see giants like Microsoft, Intel and Google showcasing solutions for the Edge and the southbound devices, that is the sensors and actuators below the Edge.

The EdgeX Foundry project, which aims to build a common open framework for IoT Edge computing, has got quite a momentum. Since the project started in April 2017 more than 60 members have joined, including Samsung, Dell/RSA, Cumulocity and many more. Quite a few of the EdgeX member companies were exhibiting. Seen from a hardware perspective this confirms the importance of having computing capabilities in the devices and a gateway solution that stands up to the task. I can only agree on the importance of having computing capabilities within the Edge – the devices are creating value!

Intel’s GM of IoT, Jonathan Ballon, confirms this and says “Value is being created within the Edge and the cloud.”* In other words, what Jonathan is saying is that value is not only being created in the cloud, which was the general opinion just one year ago. I really agree when he says that we see that IoT currently is being reignited.

IoT is happening!

Furthermore we see that wireless connectivity is in focus, in particular meshing technologies. For example, this year we can see the Bluetooth SIG exhibiting, which otherwise is an unusual sight. For me and my colleagues it has been busy days in the LumenRadio booth, much busier than IOTSWC 16. There is a great interest in wireless connectivity solutions for devices and this is of course in line with the increased focus on the Edge. To succeed in creating value at the Edge, Future-Proof Connectivity is a necessity. The typical topics we’ve been discussing are:

  • Ultra-low power battery operation
  • Firmware update capabilities
  • Device computing capacity
  • Wireless standards
  • The importance of reliable and secure connectivity

Those are the key challenges for device-to-device connectivity within the Edge and are being taken seriously at this year’s IOTSWC. Me and my colleagues are leaving IOTSWC with a great feeling – IoT has passed the phase of disillusionment and is on the slope of enlightenment. IoT is happening for real, and we’re on the Edge of something great!

LumenRadio selected technology partner for ARRI’s new wireless platform

Film & Broadcasting market leader ARRI have selected LumenRadio as its technology partner for their wireless offer going forward. The first products to be released are the SkyLink and the SkyPanel S360-C, both debuting at IBC 2017.

“In the year of their 100th anniversary, ARRI have taken the step to go wireless and join LumenRadio’s ever-growing list of OEM’s and end-users who are using our ultra-reliable CRMX technology. This further solidifies our position as the de facto standard for wireless DMX within Film & Broadcasting, which is both a blessing and a responsibility – we will have to continue to deliver on our promise of Wireless Without Worries.” says Robert Larsson, International Sales Manager and responsible for LumenRadio’s business within Professional Lighting.

The SkyLink product is a particularly interesting development, as it opens for retrofitting the huge installed base of ARRI SkyPanels in the market. This provides ARRI with an end-to-end solution, adding wireless connectivity with a minimum of effort. As production sets always push the boundaries in terms of creativity and flexibility to stay competitive, this product will help existing set-ups take the next leap.

“We are very proud of earning ARRI’s trust and adding them to our reference list. We are positive this will further reassure our current and future OEM partners that CRMX is the technology of choice for Film & Broadcasting – the only solution that truly can fulfill the reliability requirements of this high-stake business.” concludes Peter Lindkvist, Sales Director at LumenRadio.

LumenRadio are visiting IBC 2017 on Friday September 15 – please reach out if you are there and would like to know more about CRMX and our ultra-reliable connectivity solutions.
